The Best Of The Performing Arts Close To Home
2008-2009 Season

[MELBOURNE, FL] – Steven Janicki, Executive Director of the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, is announcing the 2008-2009 Theatre Season, which will run from October through May.  The King Center is located at the corner of Post Road and Wickham Road in Melbourne.

This season brings another wonderful collection of performing arts and entertainment close to home. You will find the excitement of Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Happy Days – A New Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, Oliver! and Jesus Christ Superstar.  That is just the beginning. We have an exciting year of comedy, jazz, rock, holiday concerts and more to round out this fabulous season.

To become a season member and create a personalized season, individuals must select three (3) or more shows from the performances offered. Member benefits include a discount off most season shows, ticket exchange privileges and advance notification of newly added shows during the year. Call 321.242.2219 for a free brochure. Located just off the beautiful King Center Rotunda is the Studio Theatre, our small venue with large offerings.  Here you will find offbeat productions in an intimate 226-seat setting. This season we feature Dixie’s Tupperware Party and Girl’s Night: The Musical. Feel as though you are part of the show for this most personal theatre experience. You may select one or both of these shows as part of your package to become a season subscriber.

In our quest to provide the finest performing arts and educational theatre programs on Florida’s Central East Coast, we are pleased to announce ten wonderful children’s shows this season.  This is an excellent opportunity for youngsters to experience the thrill of a live performance through the world of music, drama, dance and a combination of other arts and educational programs.  All performances are on the Main Stage and open to the public unless otherwise noted. 

We are also offering a “Family Fun” evening presenting the National Acrobats of China. A children’s discounted ticket is offered for this performance which includes ages 12 and under. Due to safety concerns, the capacity of the theatre is limited to the number of seats.  Everyone must have a ticket, including infants.

The season brochure contains detailed information on all performances, discounted ticket prices and the King Center’s private membership group, the Crown Club. Tickets will be available to non-subscribers in the fall.  To place your name on the mailing list to receive a personal copy of the season brochure, please call (321) 242-2219 and listen to the prompts.

All performances are on the Main Stage and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Groups of 10 or more are encouraged. The King Center reserves the right to photograph and/or video tape members of our audience while attending any of the King Center Educational Theatre Programs to be used for promotional purposes only. No names of attendees will be used unless prior approval is given by the individual. Tickets not purchased as part of a group package are subject to a-per ticket handling charge. All patrons, including infants, must have a ticket.

VSA arts of Florida- Brevard Region will present selections of award winning one-act scripts written by emerging playwrights in grades 9-12 from surrounding Brevard County Public Schools.  The selections will explore the experience of a person with a disability, how it affects their lives and the lives of others.  Sponsored in part by The Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. Educational Theatre Program and Brevard County Public School District.

MASTER CLASS
Break! The Urban Funk Spectacular

Suggested Audience:  Age 12 and older
Cost: $15 each level

Enjoy this highly engaging class taught by members of The Urban Funk Spectacular.  This class will be geared toward dancers with beginner, intermediate and advanced level training (suggested age is 12 years and older). Urban Funk performs works by both established and emerging talented performers from around the nation and overseas.  Urban Funk is recognized as a respected training ground for professional dancers.  The Master Class will serve as a tremendous resource to nurture the dancers’ experience and training. Space is limited so secure your space now!  As an extension of the training received during the master class, you are encouraged to secure seats to see the company perform on stage at the King Center on Tuesday May 5 at 10:30 AM. King Center summer theatre camp is led by highly trained members of national and international touring companies. Many of our camp spaces fill up fast! Our camp offers opportunities for young people to expand their creative and performing talents.
