I am happy to report that life expectancy in the US continues to rise. Americans are living longer than ever and as this trend continues, it will shine an ever brightening spotlight on the lifestyle issues that affect our health and vitality as well as the long term financial needs that we will face. If we don’t want to be burdened by ill health in our senior years, we better start paying attention to what we eat right now. And If we don’t want to work into our 70’s to guarantee security into our eighties, we have to start planning for it today.

Indeed, we are living longer. The US Census reports that life expectancy continues to rise and has been rising steadily for years. In Aug 2009 the center for Disease Control reported that record high life expectancy was recorded for both males and females (75.3 years and 80.4 years, respectively). While the gap between male and female life expectancy has narrowed since the peak gap of 7.8 years in 1979, the 5.1 year difference in 2007 is the same as in 2006.

The oldest of the Baby Boomers are now 63...78 million of us born between 1946 and 1964. The leading edge of this bulge in the US population is at or nearing retirement and experiencing challenges with their health as well as finances. These two major concerns have begun to occupy a more and more prominent position in the hearts and minds of these 78 million Americans between 45 and 63 years old. How do we stay healthy and vital, and how do we survive the recession move toward the spectacular quality of life we all deserve...living out the dreams of our youth and checking off our “bucket list?”

Good News. You’ve already begun to solve the first problem. A wise man once observed that we can often answer our own questions before asking them, just by paying attention to where we go for the answer.

It seems to me, based on my own simple research, that reader’s of National Health Review are asking in the right questions and looking in the right places for open minded discourse on the subject of health. Open minded investigation is your most powerful tool. Personally, I have some suggestions I would like to add to the conversation on health and vitality at any age.

If your family’s health is not what you’d like it to be, change it. Explore these four cutting edge product concepts, all backed by hard science:

Customized Supplements: Be your best with targeted nutrition. Revolutionary personal tests eliminate the guesswork and confusion from personal supplementation. Metabolic testing and customized supplements have replaced the obsolete one-size-fits-all vitamin mentality with scientific high-tech solutions for everyone seeking optimal health, energy, vitality and peace of mind.

Weight Management Solution: If you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off try a scientifically formulated weight loss solution. I can provide you detailed information on just such a program. Many people report better blood sugar control, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, less joint pain, improved energy, better self-image, greater confidence.

Children’s healthy alternative to snacking: Harness advances in science and enjoy nutrition-rich healthy snacks that can help make it easier for your kids to be healthier, happier, and perform better. Your children will love them, and so will you.

Botanical Infusion Beverages: Healthy energy your body really needs. Cutting-edge (revolutionary) mood infusion beverages for every part of your day. Alternatives to the caffeine and sugar drinks we’ve been reaching for in the grocery and convenience stores are available to the attentive shopper. Mood infusion beverages rely on botanicals and bionutrients known to affect energy levels and natural body rhythms during the day. For a better mood, better way, and better day.

Informed readers know that by cultivating healthy habits consistently, over the course of years, and taking advantage of recent advancements in nutritional science, many of our every day maladies like wildly swinging blood sugar levels or lathargia can be reduced or eliminated and the more severe diseases that develop slowly over time may be completely averted.

Unfortunately, as we learn to age gracefully, and enjoy our increasing longevity, financial concerns escalate. Millions of Americans anticipating retirement have found themselves back in Wallmart…not to shop but to work; their mutual funds and 401Ks markedly reduced. Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal recently remarked that “Wall Street the past ten years truly and profoundly lost site of its mission.” A sentiment apparently shared by Donald Trump who noted that …“We're in the midst of an economic meltdown created by Wall Street greed, financial industry ineptitude, and a multi-billion dollar government bailout of the financial system that isn't working.” Adding further that “you can’t trust your job or the government to create your wealth.” From Mark Victor Hanson, to Harvey Eckert to Robert Allen and Robert Kiyosaki it is being universally recognized that we must diversify. We must create additional streams of income to hedge our bets against an unpredictable economy. The Dow may have had a good year, but unemployment is still rising.

Many Americans are accomplishing this working out of the home. Cottage industries of all kinds are cropping up across the country. Direct sales, crafted miniatures, home offices, publications, consumable products, mini-franchises and internet businesses of all kinds are booming because of the intense need of the financially disenfranchised as well as the straight ambition of those who want to take charge of their own financial future and seek out alternative ways to provide for their families and their retirements.

Paul Zane Pilzer observed that the solution to our recession germinates from within the recession itself. The economic struggles we now face provide the impetus that will be the cure. The recession is forcing us all to reevaluate our position in this economy and the methods available to lift ourselves from potential ruin. In truth…opportunity abounds. I receive 40 offers a day in my spam, how about you? It is simply up to each of us to dream big about the future we wish to create and take some positive steps in that direction.

Live long, live well. Flourish and be prosperous. Isn’t that what we all want for ourselves and our loved ones. These are the universal values. Health and vitality coupled with financial freedom equals the life of our dreams at any age. Unfotunately, these things will not happen without a plan and a commitment to ourselves to nurture healthy habits in our kitchens and in our finances. There is an ever increasing availability of cutting edge, naturopathic products as well as emerging new business models that can help ensure your security. Be alert, be discriminating be successful and thrive.
