Chiropractor Joseph Eplett has more than professional respect for chiropractic technique, he also has a profound personal perspective on the importance of proper spinal alignment. Here, he tells how regular chiropractic care not only restored his health but saved his life!

On November 13, 1966, on my way home from class during my first semester at the National Chiropractic College in Lombard, IL, I nearly died. I was riding my motorcycle when I was rear-ended by a 1959 Chevrolet driven by a drunk driver. He hit me so hard that I was propelled through the air across four lanes of traffic, crushing one vertebra in my neck and one in my lower back. I was taken to a hospital emergency room, where my lacerations were stitched and dressed. I was in a coma and last rites were administered.

Much to everybody’s surprise, ten days later I awoke from the coma a quadriplegic.

After many tests and opinions, I was told I would never walk or use my arms again. My brain was working fine, but the 13 million electronic signals per minute sent out by the brain were not getting through to my arms and legs.

At the time of the accident, I was a healthy 19-year-old athlete and I wasn’t about to spend the rest of my life as a quadriplegic.

After being released from the hospital, I started getting chiropractic adjustments and in just two weeks, I was able to move my arms and legs.

Through continued chiropractic care and treatment, my brain was reconnected to my arms and legs and the use of my arms and legs and various other parts of my body were restored. Eventually, the cause of my paralysis was completely corrected, allowing my muscles to function so that I could enjoy a healthy life.

I know chiropractic works. I have seen it change lives of many people I have treated over the years and in others who have been treated outside my care. I know chiropractic works because when everyone else told me nothing would change my paralysis, chiropractic did.
